If you own a Surface Pro 2 and were quick like me to update the system software last week, you may be noticing some off behaviour with the battery. In my case, leaving a fully charged Pro 2 on the desk unused for a 24 hour period resulted in an almost flat battery. At first, I thought I may have simply forgotten to charge the unit the day before but after the 2nd time I went searching for answers.
It turns out that I’m not alone and a number of users have reported issues in relation to the battery performance since the update. These have ranged from reduced capacity through to the device not charging completely. Microsoft are aware of the situation and to reduce the impact to more users have pulled the update:
To ensure the best experience for our customers during the holiday season, we have taken steps to remove the update for Surface Pro 2 that was previously published through Windows Update on December 10th, 2013. We are working to release an alternative update package after the holidays.
That’s great for people that haven’t updated but for everyone else, we need to wait until after the holidays. Not very useful if the tablet is being used whilst travelling on holidays.
