Sennheiser XS Lav USB-C Mobile Kit Reviewed

Blogging on the go? The Sennheiser XS Lav USB-C Mobile Kit is designed with your needs in mind. It’s essentially a tripod with a built-in microphone that is designed to utilize your mobile phone as a camera, giving you what amounts to a portable video rig that you’ll always have handy. So, how does it measure up?

Today we’ll take a closer look to give you the pros and cons of this crafty product so that you can decide if it’s worth your while. Let’s take a look!

Product highlights:

  • Omnidirectional clip-on microphone
  • Aluminum Smartphone clamp with rubber grip
  • Manfrotto PIXI lightweight tripod with ball-joint head
  • Foam windscreen
  • Storage pouch

What we liked about this product:

First off, we like the Sennheiser Smartphone clamp. The Aluminum constructions make it both light and durable and since it is adjustable, you can easily switch it from landscape to portrait depending on your video needs.

The microphone is quality as well, which is overlooked more than you would think. With the included clip, you can simply snap it onto your shirt and it still works perfectly while making you look sharp during your broadcast. The sound is crisp and clean and quite sufficient for vlogging or simply recording videos to send to family or friends.

The tripod is the final component and Manfrotto PIXI tripods already have a good reputation. You can adjust it as needed with the press of a button for locking and unlocking and the swivel joint provides a wide range of configuration. Overall, everything seems well-made and perfectly suited for its purpose as a small, mobile video rig.

Where we felt that the product could use some improvement:

A small plastic case would have been nice, as the pouch that’s included won’t really protect your gear very much when it’s stowed away. We also would have liked a longer USB cable but all in all, we were quite pleased with this product.

Final verdict: We really liked the Sennheiser XS Lav USB-C Mobile Kit and have no hesitation in recommending it. It’s got a sturdy construction, the omnidirectional microphone works great, and with the aluminium Sennheiser clamp and the Manfrotto PIXI tripod, you’ve got all components of quality that you would probably have chosen anyway if you’d purchased them separately at a store.

If you want your own portable video rig then this setup comes highly recommended and you may purchase it with confidence.
