Netflix to Block Proxies and VPNs

 

In a move that will surely disappoint many Netflix users here in Australia, it looks like the company is now looking at stopping people from circumventing the geographic restrictions on available titles.

David Fullagar, Vice President of Content Delivery writes:

“Some members use proxies or “unblockers” to access titles available outside their territory. To address this, we employ the same or similar measures other firms do. This technology continues to evolve and we are evolving with it. That means in coming weeks, those using proxies and unblockers will only be able to access the service in the country where they currently are.”

How this will work in practice is still unknown but this could just be the start of another leapfrogging exercise.
