Magellan has launched a new range of dedicated cycling devices in Australia – the Cyclo 500 series. The Cyclo 500, 505 and 505HC are designed to suite Australian cyclists and usher in a number of new features not seen in Australia before:
- Preloaded Australian and New Zealand bike tracks
- Wireless uploading via inbuilt WiFi
- “Shake and Share” feature for sharing of data
- “Surprise Me” feature where the unit will recommend a route based on time, difficulty or distance
According to Paris Basson, brand manager in Australia/New Zealand:
“The Cyclo 500 series is the first in Australia to come preloaded with bike specific tracks, bike centric turn-by-turn navigation and points of interest information such as bicycle repair shops from map provider HERE™. Data is collected from reliable sources such as Bicycling Australia to ensure you are guided safely along bike-friendly routes, transitioning seamlessly from streets with bike paths to independent bike paths. Depending on your bike type, you may also be taken along bike-friendly off road bike paths too. Riders also have the alternative option of using Open Street maps that come preloaded on the device.”
The Cyclo 500 series come with a 3″ customisable colour toughened glass screen. It’s also water resistant (IPX7) and can keep track of calories burnt, speed, distance, etc… The units run of a rechargeable lithium ion battery which gives approximately 12 hours of use when fully charged.
Other features include:
- WiFi syncing with Magellan Cyclo account
- Turn by turn route guidance
- Backtrack feature to return to the starting point
- G-sensor/accelerometer
- Barometric altimeter for accurate elevation information
- Heart rate monitor, cadence and speed sensor kit (Cyclo 505HC model only)
