Epson Features in the Mercedes me Store Experience

The 2019 Formula 1 Grand Prix kicks off in Melbourne, Australia this weekend. Epson, a sponsor of the Mercedes team, invited a bunch of us down to share in the pre-race experience. The day started at the Mercedes me Store on Collins Street.

Mercedes Me Store

Mercedes me is currently the only cafe/store of it’s kind in Australia, in fact, there are only eleven of them in the world. The concept is to bring a blend of cafe culture and Mercedes Benz lifestyle under the one roof to provide a unique casual dining experience. But more than that, it was also a site where you could see some of the Epson products actually being used. A much more useful way to see them in action as opposed to watching a purpose-built and controlled demonstration.

Four key products was in use on the day:

  • Laser Projector – LightScene EV-105
  • Smart Glasses – Moverio BT-300
  • Projector – EB-L1755UNL
  • Photo Printer – Expression Premium ET-7700

The LightScene EV-105 is part of Epson’s Accent Lighting 3LCD Laser Projector series. Designed for dynamic content it’s perfect for digital art and signage. Using the software you aren’t limited to projecting a rectangular image either, in the case of Mercedes Me, the LightScene EV-105 project multimedia that fit perfectly in the Mercedes Benz logo.

The Moverio BT-300 Smart Glasses were also on display showcasing their Augmented Reality (AR) capabilities. Wearing the glasses, I was able to view additional information on the 2 vehicles that were parked there for the day. It was great to see the rate at which this technology is moving.

No presentation is without some display of multimedia right? For this, Mercedes Me use a mounted Epson EB-L1755UNL Large Venue Projector. Offering 15,000 Lumens of brightness and a 2,500,000:1 contrast ratio this 3LCD laser projector hit the mark with ease. Had no issues enjoying the high res content that was displayed.

Finally, the Epson Expression Premium ET-7700 EcoTank All-in-One Supertank Printer. With a touch screen that supports printing directly from a camera’s memory card, the photographer of the day sure gave it a good workout, printing images stored on his Digital SLR’s SD card. The ET-7700 comes with approximately 2yrs worth of ink supply so he could have literally printed thousands of 6×4 photos before needing to get more ink.

Overall, it was a good day out, a long one for me as I was up since 2:30am. It was great to see the Epson gear being used in a real world environment. Sometimes we forget about the complexities involved with real use cases when performing product reviews in a known and isolated environment. Always good to get a reality check on these things.
