Epson Expression Photo XP-970

If you’re interested in getting your hands on one of the best (and most affordable) wide-format photo printers on the market today, you want to take a closer look at the Epson Expression Photo XP-970. Without dedicating a huge chunk of real estate (or floor space) in your home to an oversized printer, the XP-970 comes with modest space requirements.

Epson has hit it out of the park again, producing a relatively compact wide format printer specifically designed to offer you unbelievable print quality in a variety of different sizes that standard printers cannot handle.

Not suited to professional photographers but instead, prosumer amateurs and hobbyists that want a top-tier commercial grade wide format printer without spending a small fortune, there’s a lot to fall in love with when it comes to the Epson Expression Photo XP-970 – that’s for sure!

Incredible Print Quality

Right out of the gate, you are going to be blown away by the depth of colour and the crystal clear resolutions this printer is capable of putting out.

The photo quality you’ll be able to print is almost unbelievably good, thanks in large part to some fancy engineering “under the hood” by the Epson. The XP-970 has stunning output resolutions and some of the best print options you’ll find on the market today.

The print quality you’ll get here is on par with what you could have expected from a traditional photo print shop (when those existed). While it might not be entirely at the professional or art gallery level, you have an almost impossible time spotting the difference between photos printed on the Epson Expression Photo XP-970 and pictures printed professionally.

However, you do pay a little bit extra to print in full colour with this dedicated photo printer (to the tune of $0.14 a page, especially if you’re stretching things out to wide formats). But once you lay eyes on the print quality, you’ll find, like most others, the extra cost to be well worth it.

Small Form Factor

It’s cool how Epson was able to fit a wide format printer into such a relatively compact form factor.

Measuring only 479mm (W) x 356mm (D) x 148mm (H) (and weighing just under nine kilograms), you’ll still be able to print photos up to 11″ x 17″ with absolutely zero difficulties whatsoever. The XP-970 isn’t a “portable” wide format printer – not by any stretch of the imagination – but it isn’t anywhere near as large as traditional wide-format photo printers or legacy photo printers used to be, either.

The printer isn’t going to chew up a lot of real estate on your desk.

Top Tier Connectivity Options

Lastly, it’s hard not to be impressed by the sheer volume of connectivity options you’ll have to pick and choose from when you use the Epson Expression Photo XP-970.

Capable of printing from Wi-Fi connections, ethernet connections, USB connections, as well as a multitude of SD and mini SD cards, you’ll also have the opportunity to print “from the cloud” thanks to the fact that this printer comes already configured right out of the box to respond to voice commands from Amazon Alexa as well as Google Assistant. Support for Siri via Apple devices or Cortona on Microsoft devices is not yet available.

Closing Thoughts

The Epson Expression Photo XP-970 is a fantastic printer for the money in the photos you’re able to run off of this hardware are nothing short of exceptional.
