Epson EcoTank ET-M1120

Not everything is better in colour or comes with a large price tag. The Epson EcoTank ET-M1120 can attest to this. For people who are looking for monochrome printers, the newly launched M1120 looks to be a great option to consider

Let’s take a look at what kind of value proposition the new Epson printer presents. Is it something you should consider getting for your office, your home, or perhaps both?

What is a Monochrome Printer?

Let’s start with the basics. Any type of printer that only uses black ink is referred to as a monochrome printer. It is cost-efficient and can be used in professional environments because it prints documents quickly and at a lower cost per printed page.

It may not have the versatility or appeal of a coloured printer, but the operational costs are lowered. This is largely because a monochrome printer is task-specific – it only uses the cheaper black ink.  It remains that printer of choice for businesses because coloured prints are usually not required in many professional settings. In fact, some of the businesses we’ve visited have colour printing disabled by default to keep printing costs down for draft prints.

Printed Results like Mono Lasers, but Cheaper

Epson is a worldwide leader in printing technologies and was first in the market with their ink tank printer (EcoTank range). The M1120 comes with a streamlined design, spill-free ink bottles, and an integrated ink tank—all jammed into a more compact size.

The EcoTank printers are designed for home offices and SMEs. Compared to laser printers, the appeal of these printers is in their reduced overall cost per printed page. With the EcoTank M1120 printer, printing economy is coupled with efficiency. Each bottle of ink can yield up to 6,000 pages each or just less than half a cent per page.

The M1120 simplifies the printing process with its integrated ink tank which enables error-free and spill-proof ink refilling. The quality of printouts is laser-like, smudge-proof and water-resistant because it uses pigment ink.

Technology Packed Printer

The new EcoTank M1120 includes Wi-Fi connectivity, iPrint and WI-FI Direct, which means cable and hassle-free printing from anywhere in your network at your home or office. Users can also print documents from their tablets and smartphones via the Epson Connect feature. The setup is also very user-friendly and only takes a few taps before you are ready to print.

The printers high ink yield is perfect for the budget conscious household. The cartridge-free printer is equipped EcoTank, Epson’s ink filling technology so intervention once installed is minimized. The ink tank is placed at the front of the printer, so the ink levels can be easily checked the bottle can be conveniently refilled. The M1120 is also equipped with a fast FPOT or First Page Out Time from sleep, and the 15 page per minute speed means that you don’t have to wait around for jobs to complete.

Final Thoughts

There are some pretty good reasons for why Epson is only targeting this as a home printer. Whilst, the EcoTank ET-M1120 does manage to get first prints out pretty quickly, it can take a while to get to the rest of its queue. Operating at 15 ppm, this would not be appropriate for the workload of an average office.

That said, the Epson EcoTank ET-M1120 is an excellent choice for home users who are looking for a printer they can use specifically for monochromatic printing. It is one of the most affordable options in the market today and offers top-notch features that are true to Epson’s reputation of producing high-quality printers.

The bottom line is that for its accompanying price tag, the Epson EcoTank ET-M1120 is a good purchase for the home where colour printing isn’t a necessity.
