Dell is one of the leading computer providers on the market, and they really hit the nail on the head when they first introduced the XPS 13 back in 2015. The company decided to update the XPS 13 laptop and it is even more impressive than it was before. Some of the most notable updates include a more efficient Intel Kaby Lake processor, battery life that lasts all day long, and a Thunderbolt 3 port. The XPS 13 also offers some of the same standards that the original model offered, including a 13-inch screen with a hardly noticeable bezel.
Overall, the Dell XPS 13 is one of the best laptops on the market today, and it’s easy to see why so many people love it.
Design of the Dell XPS 13
The design of the XPS 13 is what really sets it apart from other laptops on the market. Offering its trademark Infinity Edge screen bezel, users can enjoy excellent, edge-to-edge viewing and a super high quality image. The display is 13.3 inches and covers 92 percent of the sRGB colour gamut, which means that you will be able to enjoy some very vivid and lifelike colours. The contrast ration is 1,109:1, so you will also be able to see tons of details. An optional touchscreen is available with the updated XPS 13, however, while it may come in handy at times, it really isn’t a necessity.
The carbon fibre finish on the palm rest adds a nice finishing touch, giving the laptop a sharper look.
The lid of the XPS 13 used to only be available in silver, but with the new updated version of this laptop, it is now also available in a cool rose gold colour. The colour that you choose for the lid will extend down around the bottom portion of the edges of the laptop. The lid of this laptop is made of pure metal, which is pretty sturdy, but may be susceptible to some dings or scratches.
The keyboard hasn’t changed too much. The keys are spaced a bit too far apart, which may make it difficult for some users to type. We were impressed with the backlighting on the keyboard, as we thought this was a handy feature. We found the touchpad a little too sensitive to the touch but otherwise great to use.
The location of the webcam on the XPS 13 had us a little puzzled. It’s located on the bottom left corner of the screen, which is quite strange. Users will have to really adjust the position of their bodies in order to avoid capturing awkward images up their noses. Otherwise, the images that the webcam picks up are decent. Also, the microphone is of fine quality. It can easily pick up sounds at normal levels, though there is just a slight bit of static.
Dell XPS 13 Performance
We were very impressed with the performance that the updated version of the XPS 13 provides. It comes equipped with a 7th generation Intel Core i7 7500U processor that clocks at 2.7 GHz. The quad-core Kaby Lake chips also helps to boost the performance that the laptop offers; in fact, it makes the updated model of the XPS13 about 9 percent faster than the previous model!
The HD Graphics 620 chip offers limited horsepower, which means that serious gamers probably won’t be able to get what they are looking for out of this laptop. In order to increase the speed, the resolution has to be decreased.
The battery life on the XPS 13 is really quite impressive. It lasts for nearly 8 hours between charges, which means that the average user would be able to complete a full day of work without having to plug in.
Dell XPS 13 Key Features
This laptop offers some pretty great features that set it apart from other laptops on the market. Some of the most notable features include:
- A 2.7 – 3.5 GHz dual-core Intel Core i7-7500U processor
- 8Gb DDR4 RAM, with an option to upgrade to 16GB
- Intel HD graphics 620
- 2 USB 3
- 1 USB 3.1/Thunderbolt 3 combination

Overall, we were very impressed by Dell’s XPS 13 update. The company did a great job of holding onto the best features of the original model while adding some impressive upgrades. Offering great speed, a long battery life, impressive graphics and a sleek screen, we think that the majority of users will also be impressed when they use this laptop, too.
