D-Link DCS-4633EV

As the name suggests, the D-Link Vigilance 3 Megapixel H.265 Outdoor Dome Network Camera is a compact dome security surveillance camera. At a glance, it looks rugged and well built, the DCS-4633EV is quite solid and well-sealed.

The Vigilance 3 Megapixel H.265 is from D-Link’s professional camera range. Being a Power over Ethernet (PoE) camera, it does require a permanent install. D-Link seems to be targeting small to medium-sized homes or businesses with the DCS-4633EV.

What we loved about this camera

Easy to use and customize

Ease of use and customization is everything, especially when dealing with a networked IP camera. Fortunately, the D-Link Vigilance 3 Megapixel H.265 was easy to install and use. You can utilize your web browser to easily configure or update the camera settings. Similarly, using the user-friendly interface lets you find everything you need on the D-Link control panel.

Clarity in low light and motion detection

Great clarity at night

The D-Link DCS-4633EV delivered good quality images, even in low lit areas, thanks to the IR LEDs used. You can also use the 3D filter to apply noise filtering to clean up the images a little more.

The other useful feature, found in most quality cameras, was motion detection. Setup zones and triggers and have the camera start recording when someone enters the targeted area.

Strong and rigid

Whilst you can install this indoors, this is built to be an outdoor camera. The camera housing is robust and strong, built to IK10 certified standards. It has a rigid design but at a closer look, you will realize that the exterior was very well crafted. The glass carefully fits into the camera casing protecting it from water and other extreme weather conditions. The rigid exterior also makes it challenging to vandalize and especially when accidentally bumped. This camera is built to survive the outdoor environment.

Easy surveillance management

With D-Link’s D-ViewCam software you can see all the cameras in one screen. You should be able to connect and see up to 32 cameras in a single screen. However, we were not able to test this software as part of this review as D-ViewCam is only available for Windows, no Mac OS version was available on the website. That said, as the camera is ONVIF Compliant, I was able to use a different surveillance software for testing.

Final Thoughts

This is a great little camera for homeowners and small to medium businesses. It offers advanced features that you might not get from most of the entry level cameras. With the DCS-4633EV, you get to enjoy high definition images, pictures in low light and even motion detection.
