D-Link has announced the release of the DWL-8620AP Wireless AC2600 and DWL-6620APS Wireless AC1300 Wave 2 Dual-Band Unified Access Points (AP). The new APs promise to offer next-generation connectivity with higher speeds and more excellent coverage.
D-Link’s new access points, designed with SMEs in mind, are built to be flexible and scalable. The APs are promoted as being able to perform fast and reliably day in day out.
The DWL-8620AP leverages 802.11ac Wave 2 technology to deliver bleeding edge connectivity with super-fast speeds of up to 2,533 Mbps. The unit also supports Link Aggregation (LAGG) giving you double the backhaul bandwidth if your switches support it.
Network capacity gets a significant increase with the use of the DWL-8620AP’s 4×4 MU-MIMO technology. In addition to more capacity, the system also comes with better network security and access controls.
While the APs are designed to work with D-Link’s Wireless Controllers (can manage up to 1,024 APs), they can also operate as a standalone access point. That said, the capability of the D-Link management solution is perfect for small to medium-sized businesses. For example, with the use of Radio Frequency (RF) resource management, the system can identify failed APs and boost surrounding APs to provide ongoing Wi-Fi coverage seamlessly.
The DWL-6620APS, while at a lower price point, still shares many features with the DWL-8620AP. The critical difference is that the DWL-6620APS is targetted at businesses that have a growing wireless device ecosystem.
The DWL-6620APS still uses the 802.11ac Wave 2 standard, but speeds are lower at up to 1,267Mbps (867Mbps for 802.11ac and 400Mbps for 802.11n).
Similarly, the DWL-6620APS can also operate as a standalone Access Point or be centrally managed. The DWL-6620APS also supports PoE (Power over Ethernet) for easy deployment.
Both units are already available from D-Link’s website or authorised resellers with the following RRP:
- DWL-8620AP – AUD$869.95 and NZ$989.99
- DWL-6620APS – AUD$599.95 and NZ$689.99
